December 31, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The New York Islanders have recalled former Utah forward Trevor Smith from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He made his NHL debut this afternoon in the Islanders 4-2 win over Florida.
The Grizzlies are proud to be the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
Smith, named an ECHL All-Star in 2007-08, played 22 games with Utah last year and had 11 goals and 14 assists before being assigned to Bridgeport where he led the Sound Tigers with 18 goals and also had 11 assists this season in 33 games. He was with the Islanders in this year's pre-season and tallied the game-winning goal September 23 in overtime versus Boston.
At the start of the season, 16 former Grizzlies were on NHL rosters. Last year, current Grizzlies goaltender Mike Mole was recalled to the Islanders in March.
The Grizzlies return to action Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas. Face-off at the Orleans Arena is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. both nights.
Utah returns home to open a four-game in five-night home stand Tuesday, January 6 when they will host the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m.
