Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers and the ECHL proudly announced today that veteran defenseman Greg Labenski (left) and rookie forward Justin Bowers (right) have been named to the 2009 ECHL American Conference All-Star team. Additionally, Labenski was named a starter for the game, which will be played in Reading, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 21.
The 30-year-old Labenski is in his fourth year with the Bombers, having previously played for the team in 2000-01. The three-time team captain has 18 points (5g,13a) through 29 games this season. Among ECHL blueliners he is tied for first with four power play goals and tied for third with 14 points on the power play. This is Labenski's first selection to an ECHL All-Star team; he was named a 2006 IHL All-Star while playing with the Kalamazoo Wings.
First-year pro Justin Bowers, 23, gets his first All-Star nod after leading the Bombers in points (31) and assists (21). The Halifax, Nova Scotia native has the fourth highest points total amongst rookies and is second in assists. He's recorded eight multi-point games this season and had an eight-game point streak in November.
The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the nine teams having a representative.
There are 11 rookies on the American Conference roster and 18 of the 21 players are making their first appearance in an ECHL All-Star Game.
The Bombers are on the road this weekend at Trenton on Friday at 7:30 and Saturday at 7:00, then Sunday at Reading at 1:05. Fans can tune into WONE 980AM for broadcasts of Friday and Sunday's games.
