Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

FRESNO -- Francisco Peguero's bloop single to center broke up a scoreless game in the sixth inning, and the Fresno Grizzlies tacked on an unearned run later in the inning en route to a 2-0 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday night at Chukchansi Park.

The Isotopes (63-54) losing streak reached a season-high six games. They've scored nine runs in the seven games on this 1-6 road trip. Since the All-Star Break, the Topes have been held to four runs or less in 15 of 19 games. Oklahoma City won its 11th consecutive game, so the Topes are now a season-worst four games out of first place in the PCL's American Southern division.

Fresno (56-60) won its seventh in a row, all on their eight-game home stand. They've gone 12-7 since the All-Star Break, although they're still 6 1/2 games out of first place in the PCL's Pacific Southern division.

Tough-luck losing pitcher Red Patterson (6-4) didn't allow a hit until there was one out in the fifth inning, when Ehire Adrianza lined a clean single to right field. That snapped a stretch where Patterson struck out five in a row. With one out in the sixth inning, Juan Perez doubled to left field for the second hit. One batter later, on a 3-2 pitch, Peguero blooped a single that scored Perez.

That ended the night for Patterson and brought in Kelvin De La Cruz. Johnny Monell singled to right, then Hector Sanchez hit a ball in the hole that shortstop Justin Sellers tried to backhand. Sellers couldn't field it cleanly and his throw to second was a little late, bringing home the game's second and final run.

Mike Kickham (5-7) started for Fresno and allowed four hits in six scoreless innings. Kickham struck out four and walked two. Fabio Castillo, Jake Dunning and George Kontos all pitched scoreless innings to close out the victory. It was Kontos' third save.

Leadoff hitter Matt Angle had three of the Isotopes five hits, and also walked. No.2 hitter Elian Herrera had a bunt single, walk and was hit by a pitch. The next seven hitters in the Topes lineup went a combined 1-for-26. The Topes have 39 hits in seven games on this road trip, without a home run.

The finale of this four-game series and eight-game road trip is Tuesday night. Angel Castro starts for Albuquerque. Justin Fitzgerald goes for Fresno. First pitch is at 8:05 pm Mountain Time and all the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
