Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nick Additon hurled six shutout innings of two-hit ball to lead the Memphis Redbirds to a 5-3 victory over the Las Vegas 51s in the finale of a four-game series on Tuesday at AutoZone Park.
Memphis (57-61) salvaged a four-game series split with Las Vegas and finished 5-3 over the eight-game homestand.
Additon (8-6) walked one and fanned five while twirling his team-leading ninth quality start. He threw 76 pitches (47 for strikes) and was replaced by a pinch hitter during the Redbirds' four-run rally.
Three-hit efforts from outfielder Mike O'Neill and outfielder Kolten Wong led the charge offensively. O'Neill added an RBI and run scored from the leadoff spot while Wong drove in two and walked from the three hole.
Ryan Jackson ripped a one-out single to score Audry Perez for a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third. Perez previously reached on a single and reached third as O'Neill knocked a base hit to center.
Memphis rode a four-run rally in the sixth inning to move ahead at 5-0. With the base loaded, O'Neill reached on an infield single to score Chris Swauger from third, followed by a walk by Jackson. Wong concluded the rally by ripping a two-run single to right.
For the second consecutive night, Francisco Pena hammered a three-run home in the top of the seventh to account for Las Vegas' scoring. It was the backstop's eighth homer of the season.
Sam Freeman gave up three runs over two innings. Fernando Salas converted his seventh save with a perfect ninth.
Giancarlo Alvarado (4-2) scattered five hits for a run in five innings for the defeat.
After a league-wide off-day tomorrow, the Redbirds embark on an eight-game PaciïìÃÂc Conference road trip on Thursday with the opener of a four-game series at Reno (Triple-A Diamondbacks). Baseball returns to the Bluff City to open their ïìÃÂnal homestand on August 16, a crucial ïìÃÂve-gamer against the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A Royals).
