Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Salt Lake City, UT - Andrew Romine's two-run triple capped a decisive three-run seventh inning rally and Salt Lake was able to overcome five errors to hang on for a 5-4 decision over Omaha Monday night in the third of a four-game set at Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Storm Chasers dipped to 59-58 but maintained their three-game lead over Memphis in the American Conference North Division. Omaha lost for a first time in seven games on the current road trip and had an eight-game road win streak snapped, as well, by the Bees, who earned their league-best 40th home victory.

The hosts scratched across a run in the first inning on a Grant Green sacrifice fly and another in the second when Scott Cousins singled, scooted to third on a Robbie Widlansky base hit and crossed the plate when Luke Carlin grounded into a double play. The 2-0 deficit marked the first time on the road trip that the Storm Chasers had trailed by multiple runs.

Omaha dented the scoreboard in the fourth when Pedro Ciriaco started the frame with a bunt single, moved to second base on a Green throwing error, to third on a deep fly ball out and scored on a Gorkys Hernandez base hit. Salt Lake starter, and former Omaha Royal, Billy Buckner was lifted following a leadoff walk to Christian Colon in the fifth and was charged with an unearned run on five hits and three walks. The right-hander has not allowed an earned run over 18 1/3 innings over three turns against his former team.

Jeremy Berg took over and retired the first eight hitters he faced before Irving Falu doubled with two outs in the seventh and scored to tie the game at two on a base hit by Colon. However, the Bees were able to regain the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Roberto Lopez opened the frame with a single and went to third base on a Dwyer throwing error on a Cousins sacrifice bunt attempt. Widlansky walked to load the bases and that spelled the end of the line for Dwyer, who absorbed the defeat after giving up five runs, two earned, on six hits, walking one and fanning two. Buddy Baumann came on and got Carlin to bounce into a force out at the plate before Drew Heid's scoring fly ball brought Cousins home with the tie-breaking run. Romine then sent a liner to right field that Paulo Orlando lost in the lights and had clunk off the back of his head which allowed two more runs to score to extend the hosts advantage to three.

The Chasers answered right back in the eighth as they loaded the bases with nobody out against Chad Cordero on two hits, an error and a fielder's choice grounder before Manny Pina's fielder's choice grounder chased home Ciriaco to trim the deficit to 5-3. Pinch-runner Quintin Berry went to third and Pina advanced to second on a Romine throwing error on the play but they stayed put as Cordero struck out Hernandez for the second out. Cory Rasmus entered out of the bullpen to face Falu, who sent a grounder to second that Matt Long couldn't handle allowing Berry to score to draw the visitors within one before Colon flied out to end the inning. Rasmus then retired the side in order to preserve the win and hand the Storm Chasers just their second loss in 12 games.

The series and road trip wrap up Tuesday night with Omaha left-hander Everett Teaford taking the hill against Salt Lake right-hander Barry Enright. Coverage of the game gets underway at 7:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
