August 6, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City RedHawks extended their winning streak to a record 12 games Tuesday, defeating the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 6-3 in front of 3,664 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The win kept the RedHawks perfect in their 12-game homestand and gave them a 4-0 series sweep of Colorado Springs (56-59). Oklahoma City (68-50) entered the game with the best record in the Pacific Coast League and improved to a season-best 18 games above .500 with their third-straight series sweep.
All six RedHawks runs were scored in the third inning, capped by a three-run home run by second baseman Jose Martinez to left field.
Martinez finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and one run scored. RedHawks third baseman Brandon Laird collected one hit and two RBI.
Oklahoma City starting pitcher Paul Clemens (2-0) threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits in the win. After allowing a double in the first inning, he retired 12 straight Colorado Springs batters. Kevin Chapman recorded his second save of the season for the RedHawks.
A RBI double to center field by Oklahoma City's Jimmy Paredes scored Trevor Crowe for the first run of the night in the third inning. George Springer walked and Laird followed with a two-RBI double to left field. A three-run homer by Martinez to left field boosted the RedHawks to a 6-0 lead later in the inning.
Colorado Springs scored all three runs of its runs in the seventh inning. A solo home run by Reid Brignac and a two-RBI single by Kent Matthes cut the RedHawks' lead in half.
Colorado Springs starting pitcher Collin McHugh (4-3) took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings pitched.
The RedHawks have Wednesday off before starting an eight-game road trip with a 9:05 p.m. game Thursday at Las Vegas.
Live coverage begins at 8:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
