Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The River Cats won with a walk-off double from Michael Taylor in a 5-4 victory against the Round Rock Express on Monday night at Raley Field.
This was the second walk off this season from Taylor; the first was on July 25 against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
The Express took an early lead in the second inning when Mike Bianucci had a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch, and Jared Hoying posted his sixth home run of the season over the center-field fence. In the third, Manny Ramirez had an RBI double and an inning later, Alex Buchholz extended the lead to 4-0 on a fielding error.
In the fourth inning, the River Cats closed the gap, adding three runs off six consecutive at-bats, drawing three walks and three hits, highlighted by Daric Barton's single, scoring Andy Parrino and Anthony Aliotti. Taylor's ninth-inning walk off busted the River Cats' record of being 0-50 when trailing after eight innings.
Shane Peterson had a 2-for-3 night with a double and a run scored, while River Cats righty Travis Banwart (7-5, 4.73 ERA) took on right-hander Jake Brigham (4-3, 4.21 ERA). In 6.0 innings of work, Banwart gave up six hits, two home runs and all four Express runs.
The win went to righty Fernando Nieve, who was added to the roster by Oakland from the Cleveland Indians. The loss was charged to Cory Burns who falls to 0-2 on the season.
The River Cats wrap up their four-game series against the Express on Toyota Family Value Tuesday, when right-hander Arnold Leon (2-2, 4.71 ERA) takes on righty Evan Meek (5-5, 3.86 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field on Princess and Pirate Night.
