New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Jared Rogers pitched six scoreless innings and the New Orleans Zephyrs beat the Reno Aces, 4-2 on Tuesday night.

The Zephyrs took three of four games from the Aces, and won six of eight games on the homestand to climb back to the .500 mark for the first time in three weeks.

Rogers (6-3) limited Reno to two hits and struck out six in his six innings of work, both tying season highs. He worked around a bunt single by Tony Campana to lead off the game, and a single by Josh Wilson leading off the third inning, both times stranding runners at second base.

Rogers retired the final seven batters he faced in picking up his team-leading sixth victory of the year.

New Orleans got on the board in the third inning on a one-out RBI single by Kevin Kouzmanoff . With runners at first and second, the Zephyrs executed a double steal, and the throw by catcher Ed Easley sailed into center field, allowing Bryan Petersen to score.

Chris Valaika ripped a one-out single in the fourth, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on line drive by Kevin Mattison that glanced off the glove of first baseman Mike Jacobs for a double.

Alex Burg came off the bench in the sixth inning to crush a pinch-hit home run over the center field wall, his first hit at the Triple-A level, extending the Zephyrs' lead to 4-0.

Reno cut the deficit in half in the seventh against Z's reliever Jay Jackson on a two-run double by Matt Davidson. Jackson rebounded to retire the final two batters of the inning, and Zach Phillips struck out a pair in a scoreless eighth inning to turn the lead over to Jonathan Albaladejo, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save.

The Zephyrs take their final scheduled off day of the season on Wednesday before beginning an eight-game road trip in Tucson on Thursday. First pitch in the opener of the four-game set with the Padres is 9:05 p.m.
