Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Brett Jaeger recorded 58 saves as the Fresno Falcons moved closer to a playoff spot with a 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 6,754 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Friday night.
The Condors dominated play in the first period but trailed heading into the first intermission. Mike Kiesman, while being knocked down to the ice, chipped home his fifth goal of the season with just 3:06 left in the frame to make it 1-0. Four of Kiesman's five goals this season have come against Bakersfield. The Falcons extended the lead in the second period when Lanny Gare's wrister on the power play found the top right corner of the net. The Condors had a season-high 25 shots in the middle frame and led 40-20 through two periods, but trailed 2-0.
Fresno scored early in the third to put the game out of reach. Jim Lorentz notched his sixth of the season with a blast from the left circle to make it 3- 0. Lars-Peder Nagel dug a puck free in the crease while on the power play and jammed it in for his 21st of the season to put Bakersfield on the board. Nagel was there again with the Condors goaltender pulled for an extra attacker, firing home his fourth goal in the last two outings to make it a one-goal game. But just moments after a furious goalmouth scramble for the Condors, Dan Tessier iced the win by firing the puck 150 feet for an empty net tally with 36 seconds remaining.
The loss for the Condors in regulation kept them at 86 points on the year as they dropped to fourth place in the West Division. Idaho's 5-1 win over San Diego pushed them past Bakersfield with 87 points. Long Beach remained in second place with a 2-1 win over Alaska.
The Condors play their final road game of the season on Saturday night, when they travel to Las Vegas to wrap up that series. They return home to host Idaho on the final weekend of the season next Friday and Saturday night. In Friday's game, the Condors welcome Dora the Explorer to town to entertain the kids, courtesy of Bright House Networks and KLLY 95.3. On Saturday night, one fan will win a home makeover patio giveaway from Sunshine Sunroom and Patio, sponsored by KKET-TV 11 and KUZZ 107.9.
