Valiant Bombers Comeback Ends With 7-6 Shootout Loss

Johnstown, PA – The Dayton Bombers erased a 6-3 deficit in the third period, but dropped a 7-6 shootout decision to the Johnstown Chiefs in front of 2,329 at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania Saturday night.

The Chiefs opened the scoring when Brian Collins notched his team-leading 25th goal of the season at 12:37 of the first period. P.L. Courchesne gave Johnstown a 2-0 lead at 13:15. But just 15 seconds later, AARON FOSTER put Dayton on the board with his 14th goal of the season at 13:30.

The Bombers fell behind 3-1 when Ian Manzano scored his first goal of the season at 16:32 of the second period. With 39 seconds left in the period, JANNE JOKILA made a couple great moves to beat defenseman Chris Leinweber and score on Chiefs goaltender Mark Scally. Johnstown led 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Chad Cavanaugh (2:37) and Brian Collins (3:09) gave Johnstown a 5-2 lead. Then, Bombers rookie JB BITTNER (6:36) and Brent Kelly (8:21) exchanged goals, and the chiefs led, 6-3. The Bombers erased the defecit with goals from TYLER SLOAN (9:14), JEFF SZWEZ (9:32), and TYLER SCOTT (15:57) to force overtime, 6-6.

Following a scoreless OT session, the Chiefs outscored the Bombers 2-1 in the shootout and posted the 7-6 win.

The Dayton Bombers return to action tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon when they host the interstate rival Toledo Storm. Audio coverage begins at 2:00 PM at daytonbombers.com.
