Viva Las Vegas!

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Las Vegas, NV – The Traveling Salmon Kings took their roving gypsy road show to Vegas on Friday to take on the flashy Wranglers dressed in their April Fools Day jersey's, a very nice mustard, brown and baby blue ensemble.

The Salmon Kings are coming off a five day break and are taking on a Wranglers team that are on a 0-3 streak, but are only one game below .500 in their last ten.

Jamie McCaig answered the call between the pipes for Victoria who are searching for their first victory in franchise history against the Wranglers. Recently acquired Colin Zulianello was the man behind the mask for the Wranglers and neither goalie faced any exceptional challenges from the shooters on either side.

The Wranglers were able to beat McCaig once though for the only scoring in the opening frame. It was not a shot that McCaig had any chance on though as the Wranglers broke in on a three on two. The beautiful three way passing play from Shawn Limpright and Nick Anderson was capped by Dan Tudin's 21st of the season.

The Salmon Kings had started to gain some momentum by the end of the first period and at 12:06 of the second period it paid off on the special teams. With the Wranglers down a man Kurtis Dulle and Chris Corrinet took the first two cracks at Zulianello before Mark Smith finally beat the scrambling netminder.

With the teams tied at one going into the final stanza, and each playing out the string for pride, they both were looking for the go-ahead goal and it was the Wranglers who were able to the scare the puck past a sprawling McCaig. Limpright scored his 15th of the season on the powerplay. Tudin and Jeff Attard assisted on the goal.

Then with only three and a half minutes left in the game the Wranglers stretched their lead to two. A nifty passing play at the blueline from Marco Peluso and Deryk Engelland sent Darren Lynch in on McCaig all alone. Lynch went to the backhand upstairs giving McCaig very little chance.

Engelland then closed out the scoring with his fifth of the season into the empty net. The Wranglers and the Salmon Kings finished the regular season with Vegas winning the game 4-1 and taking the season series 8-0.

The Victoria Salmon Kings trip continues to Long Beach to meet the Ice Dogs for one final time tomorrow night when the Ice Dogs celebrate "Canada Day." Game time is at 7:00 pm.
