
Royals Roar with Four First Period Goals to Beat Bullies, 5-1

Reading, PA â A four-goal first period sparked Reading to a 5-1 victory over the first place Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in the Sovereign Center last night. Preston Mizzi fired in the first two tallies for the home team 2:19 apart to give Reading a 2-0 advantage just 5:59 into the game. Cail MacLean's goal 1:21 later gave Reading a huge 3-0 advantage not even midway through the period. Graig Mischler assisted on all three Reading goals, while Larry Courville chipped in two helpers in the opening period. With less than a minute to go in the first 20 minutes, David Masse extended his scoring streak to six games with his 7th goal of the year. Three Royals tallied multiple-point games in the period, including; Mizzi (2g, GW), Mischler (3a), second straight two-point game, and Larry Courville (2a). The Royals opened the game with a 9-0 shot advantage and closed the period with an 11-7 edge. Bully starting goaltender Trevor Koenig was pulled after the opening period, stopping seven of 11 shots for the night.
The second period started with a Royals power-play which ended after a five-minute major call to Adam Borzecki just 1:28 into the middle frame. Borzecki received a 10-minute game misconduct as well and Atlantic City got a 4:33 major power play. The Royals killed off the advantage and limited the Bullies to just one shot during the power-play span. Cail MacLean added a power-play goal to close the second period and extend Reading's lead to 5-0. MacLean 22nd goal was his league-leading 15th on the power play. David Masse assisted on the goal to record his second point of the night and sixth assist in the last six games (4-6=10).
The Bullies would break the fifth shutout bid for Barry Brust on a fluky goal 6:23 into the period. Ryan Reid banged a puck off the skate of Troy Milam that got by Brust to put Atlantic City on the scoreboard. Reading out shot Atlantic City 15-9 in the period and 32-26 for the contest. The Royals were a sizzling two of six on the power play while the Bullies were zero for six. The two clubs combined for 24 penalties for 67 minutes in penalties.
The Royals host Peoria on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. The first 2,500 patrons receive the final set of Royals trading cards provided by Rieck's Printing. The two clubs meet again on Tuesday in the Sovereign Center at 7:05 p.m. Reading Area Community College is handing out Royals beanbag pucks to the first 1,200 fans through the gate. This game marks the eighth and final meeting in the regular season.
