Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs (40-20-8) did what they had to do Friday night, defeating the first place Alaska Aces (42-18-8) and moving one step closer to clinching a Kelly Cup Playoff berth. The Ice Dogs have four games remaining on the schedule, and are in sole possession of second place in the West Division with 88 points.

The Aces got the scoring started at 9:04 of the first period when Mike Scott put the puck past Sebastien Centomo to give Alaska a 1-0 lead. In the second period, Marco Rosa tied it up at 3:38 with an assist to Bill Lindsay. The same two hooked up again at 3:39 of the third to give the Ice Dogs a 2-1 lead and the eventual win. The win now puts the Ice Dogs just four points behind Alaska and two points ahead of Bakersfield who lost tonight to Fresno.

Centomo played a phenomenal game in goal for Long Beach, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced to improve his record to 5-1-0 since joining the Ice Dogs. Peter Aubry took the loss for Alaska, also making 29 saves. Neither team had a power play during the game, as the teams combined for a total of 38 minutes in penalties. The win improved the Ice Dogs record against Alaska this season to 3-2-2.

The Ice Dogs next game is Saturday, April 2nd, when they take on the Victoria Salmon Kings in their final regular season home game. Long Beach is 9-0-0 versus the Salmon Kings this season. Game time is at 7:00 PM. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS or visit www.icedogs.com.
