Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced this morning that the Boston Bruins have recalled goaltender Hannu Toivonen and defenseman Matt Lashoff while assigning goalie Philippe Sauve to the P-Bruins. Providence now has 25 players on its roster, including 15 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.

Toivonen, 22, is 2-6-0 with a 2.92 goal-against-average in eight games for the P-Bruins this season, most recently appearing in net for Providence Friday night in a 2-1 loss to the Worcester Sharks at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Both of the goals surrendered by Toivonen came with the Sharks on the man-advantage. In 10 games with Boston, the fourth-year goalie has a record of 2-5-0 with a 4.31 GAA. His last time between the pipes for the big club, he allowed five goals in a 5-0 Boston loss to the Nashville Predators December 30.

Lashoff, 20, was originally recalled to Boston from Providence on October 25 and played in his first seven NHL games during his call-up, recording one assist. The rookie returns to Boston on an emergency basis after suiting up for 28 games with the P-Bruins, tallying 17 points (6g, 11a). The blue-liner signed with Providence in 2005-06 after a full junior season with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. Selected 22nd overall (first round) by Boston in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, the East Greenbush, New York, native played the final seven regular season games for Providence last year before adding another six games of experience in the post-season. All told, Lashoff had one goal and one assist. In three junior seasons with Kitchener, the defenseman scored 93 points (16g, 75a) in 162 contests. Lashoff was also an OHL all-star in 2006.

Sauve, 26, is in his seventh professional season. This year, the netminder, acquired in a trade from the Phoenix Coyotes' organization on November 14 for center Tyler Redenbach, is 8-13-1 with a 3.59 GAA in 23 AHL contests. With Providence, Sauve is 4-8-1 with a 3.44 GAA after ten games with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage, going 4-5-0 with a 3.80 GAA. After being called up to Boston on November 24, Sauve appeared in one game, playing 29 minutes in no-decision relief of Tim Thomas that evening against the Carolina Hurricanes. He stopped 13 shots while allowing two goals. Recalled a second time last Tuesday, the netminder saw action again for Boston, coming off the bench January 4 versus the Toronto Maple Leafs to play the final nearly 13 minutes of the game while allowing a pair of goals. In two games with Boston this season, the former second round pick (38th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft has a 5.85 GAA.

The P-Bruins travel to New Hampshire tonight to battle the Atlantic Division-leading Manchester Monarchs at 7:35 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Providence returns home tomorrow Sunday, January 7, against the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Family Weekend continues with fans able to purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for just $44! Additional tickets, hot dogs and sodas are only $11. For tickets call the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
