Penguins send Bears down to third straight loss 8-4

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored a season high eight goals against HERSHEY Saturday at Wachovia Arena, downing the BEARS 8-4.

The Penguins came out firing in the first period, scoring three times on 14 shots against Maxime Daigneault to take a 3-0 lead to the dressing room after one. Tyler Kennedy opened the scoring, going short side from the left circle for this ninth goal of the season. Kyle Brodziak then would score a pair of goals, his 11th and 12th of the season. The second marker of the period for Brodziak came on the power play, and the BEARS found themselves in a 3-0 hole after one.

Wilkes-Barre would add to its lead early in the second period, when Kurtis McLean scored his sixth goal of the season at 5:56. Deryk Engelland picked up his first goal of the season at 17:38 from Eric Fehr and Pete Vandermeer to briefly close the gap to three goals, but the Pens answered with Noah Welch's goal at 17:57 to take a 5-1 lead to the locker room after two.

Daigneault was pulled after two periods, allowing five goals on 23 shots. Daren Machesney came on in relief, and allowed a goal to Jonathan Filewich at 4:56 of the third period. Kennedy then scored his 10th of the season at 8:25, and Brodziak finished a hat trick at 11:02. Eric Fehr pulled the BEARS closer with two goals, his 19th and 20th of the season late in the third period. Kyle Wilson rounded out the scoring at 19:02 of the third period with his tenth goal of the season.

Notes: Chad Wiseman and Trevor Byrne missed Saturday's game due to injury, while Marc Busenburg and Chris Bourque were healthy scratches. The two teams will meet next Sunday, January 21 in a game at GIANT Center. The loss was HERSHEY'S third straight, but just the seventh of the season in regulation.
