Falcons Host Wolf Pack Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Hartford Wolf Pack meet for the fourth time this season and second time at the MassMutual Center Saturday night. The Falcons have posted a record of 2-1 against the Wolf Pack this season with two of the three games decided by one goal or less. Springfield and Hartford last met on December 27 at the MassMutual Center with the Falcons using a pair of power play goals from captain Norm Milley on their way to a 3-1 victory. Marek Kvapil added an empty net goal in that contest capping off the win. Kvapil is tied with Milley for the team lead in scoring against the Wolf Pack this season with four points each. Goaltender Karri Ramo has been solid against the Pack in the season series posting a 1-1 record with a 1.51 goals against average and .961 save percentage. Hartford's Marvin Degon and Jed Ortmeyer lead the Pack in scoring against the Birds this year with two points each. Goaltender Al Montoya has also been steady in two games against Springfield this season posting a record of 1-1 with a 2.02 goals against .930 save percentage. The Falcons and Wolf Pack have combined for 12 goals in three games head to head this season.

The Falcons head into tonight's game having snapped a mini two-game losing streak Friday night with a 4-3 win over the Portland Pirates to take sole possession of second place in the Atlantic Division standings. Springfield won their 20th game of the season last night, the Birds didn't win their 20th game in the 2005-06 campaign until March 4. Springfield was led offensively last night by the line of Daniel Corso, Eric Healey and David Spina, who combined for three goals and four assists for seven points. Corso had a pair of second-period goals and was the game's first star, while Spina converted on the power play in the third period tallying the eventual game-winning marker. Healey assisted on three of Springfield's four goals and was the contest's third star. Goaltender Karri Ramo earned his 12th win of the season making 27 saves. Springfield will conclude their weekend with their first visit to Providence this season on Sunday afternoon.

The Wolf Pack visit Springfield having earned a point last night against the Manchester Monarchs losing in overtime 3-2. Manchester goaltender Jason LaBarbera made 59-saves against the Wolf Pack last night. Hartford rallied twice from one-goal deficits sending the game into overtime. Dane Byers scored midway through the third period tying the score at 2-2 Friday night, while Daniel Girardi also tallied for the Pack. Hartford outshot Manchester 61-23 last night, including 30 shots alone in the third period. Hartford will also conclude a three-game in three-day stretch on Sunday when they host the Worcester Sharks. Hartford has a record of 17-16-3-0 on the season and is 2-0-1-0 in their last three games. The Wolf Pack has a record of 9-6-0-0 on the road this year.

NEW TRIO DOES WELL: With captain Norm Milley out of the lineup last night, second-year pro David Spina was paired with Eric Healey and Daniel Corso against the Pirates and the trio combined for seven points on the evening. Spina scored his third goal of the year and added one assist, while Corso collected a pair of goals and the game's top star. Healey registered three helpers and now has two goals and four assists for six points in his last two games, including back-to-back three-point efforts. Healey has produced five goals and eight assists for 13 points in his last seven games. Healey leads the Falcons in scoring with 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 37 games. Healey also registered his 400th career AHL point last night.

MAKING AN IMPACT: Falcons forward Marek Kvapil scored his ninth goal of the season last night and is now fourth on the team in scoring with 21 points on the season. The Falcons have a record of 13-3-0-1 when Kvapil registers a point in a game. Center Daniel Corso netted a pair of goals last night and the Birds are 12-3-0-1 when Corso earns at least a point in a game.

TOP ROOKIE: Hartford rookie right wing Ryan Callahan collected an assist last night giving him points in four straight games, including two goals and three assists for five points in that span. Callahan remains near the top of the AHL rookie scoring race with 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points in 34 games played. Callahan is currently ranked third in the league in rookie scoring. Callahan leads the Pack in goals and points this season. The Rochester, NY native spent the 2005-06 campaign with Guelph of the Ontario Hockey League where he collected 52 goals and 32 assists for 84 points in 62 games.
