P-Bruins Fall to Monarchs 2-1

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 Saturday evening at The Verizon Wireless Arena. The P-Bruins got their lone goal from Phil Kessel.

After a scoreless opening period, the Monarchs scored with two seconds left in the second period. Patrick O'Sullivan took a pass from Lauri Tukonen and lifted the puck over the left shoulder of P-Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet and into the net to take a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. Mike Weaver had the second assist.

In the third period the P-Bruins tied the game at one on Kessel's first career AHL goal. He took a shot halfway down the right wing and sent the puck past Manchester netminder Yutaka Fukufuji. The goal was unassisted. With 1:10 left in regulation the Monarchs retook the lead. Noah Clarke scored on a rebound off of shots from O'Sullivan and Tukonen and the Monarchs held on for the 2-1 victory.

Sigalet stopped 36 of 38 shots he face for the P-Bruins, while Fukufuji made 32 saves for the Monarchs. Providence was 0 for 4 on the power play, while Manchester went 0 for 6 on the man-advantage.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for Family Night Sunday, January 7 versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for only $44.
