Adirondack Phantoms News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Frederik Cabana set up the game-tying and game-winning goals, and four different Phantoms scored in a 4-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. Philadelphia scored four unanswered goals in a span of just over 11 minutes to erase a two-goal deficit and take the win.

Binghamton struck first while on the power play early in the opening frame. Former Phantom Charlie Cook let fly a slapshot from the left point that beat Scott Munroe for the 1-0 lead 4:21 into the contest.

The Senators widened the lead to 2-0 with 9:35 remaining in the first. Serge Payer was behind the Phantoms net when he flicked a pass into the slot. Bobby Robins was standing by to one-time the puck past Munroe.

But the Phantoms turned things on for the next ten minutes, recording three goals. The first came just over a minute after Robins' goal, with 8:27 left to play. Philadelphia was attacking a loose puck in front of the Binghamton net when Riley Cote finally capitalized on a third effort, lifting the puck over a prone Jeff Glass to make it 2-1.

The equalizer came on the power play at 16:29. Frederik Cabana won a faceoff in the left circle of the Binghamton zone, sending the puck straight back. Darren Reid, fresh off a Friday night hat trick against Lowell, scored his fourth goal of the weekend when he wristed that puck high past Glass to make it a 2-2 game.

Philadelphia took a 3-2 lead with just 44 seconds left in the period, and Cabana was once again the driving force. He swept down behind the Binghamton net from the left corner before emerging on the right side and sliding a puck through the slot. Niko Dimitrakos was crashing from the left circle and blasted the puck through Glass for the first intermission lead.

The Phantoms stepped back on the gas early in the second period. Matt Ellison carried the puck down the left side and slid a centering pass over for Nate Guenin, who deflected it home to make it 4-2 just 3:39 into the frame. There would be no more scoring in the contest.

Munroe earned the win by turning aside 39 of 41 Binghamton shots. Glass was credited with the loss, stopping 14 of 17 Phantoms shots in the first period. Guard turned away 10 of 11 shots over the last two periods.

The Phantoms now return to Philadelphia, where they'll host the Grand Rapids Griffins in a rescheduled contest on Monday, January 8 at 7:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum. Kids 14 and under are invited to a postgame skate with the Phantoms, but must bring their own skates. Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
