Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans ended their ten-game winless streak and picked up three out of a possible six points during their road trip to Ohio while lowering their magic number to one.
The Titans began their week on the road with a Wednesday game against the Toledo Storm. Ken Magowan scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 11:20 of the first period, before Scott Bertoli answered on the man-advantage just over four minutes into the final frame to make it 1-1. The two teams would head to overtime, where, just fifty-one seconds in, Bracken Kearns clinched the 2-1 win for the Storm. Rejean Beauchemin was stellar in net finishing with 41 saves.
The Titans and Storm took the ice on Friday for the rematch and again Toledo was able to stake to a 1-0 lead after one on Chris Blight's 25th of the season. The Storm broke the game open in the second period with power play goals by Blight and Mike James to put the game out of reach for Trenton. Former Titan Matt Zultek potted his 11th of the season in the third to make the final score 4-0 in favor of Toledo
In their final game of the weekend, the Titans faced off against the Dayton Bombers for the last time this regular season. It took 51:24 for Jim Henkel to break the scoreless tie as he beat Mike Ayers off of a nice feed by Scott Bertoli. Jeff Legue made sure that this match would go past regulation as he tipped a centering pass over Beauchemin with just 2:51 left in regulation. In the overtime, Bertoli hit Vince Williams in the slot for the game-winning one-timer to seal a 2-1 victory for Trenton and end their ten-game winless streak.
The Titans have the week off before a three-game, three-day weekend. Trenton starts it off on their home ice on Friday, March 24 against the Wheeling Nailers. The Titans and Royals will then take part in a home-and-home series at the Sovereign Center on Saturday, March 25 and returning to Sovereign Bank Arena on Sunday, March 26.
