Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (29-21-13) went 2-0-1 for the second consecutive week. The Chiefs surrendered a two goal, third period lead on Friday in Reading, losing 6-5 in overtime. That was the only point the Chiefs would not collect last weekend. Saturday, Johnstown earned their second straight home shutout, blanking Toledo, 2-0.

Sunday, the Chiefs found an answer for Wheeling, winning 6-2. The Chiefs will play four games in five days this week, as they host Wheeling on Wednesday, travel to Reading on Friday, to Toledo on Saturday, then finish in Wheeling on Sunday.

Game #61 (3/17/06) READING 6 - Johnstown 5 Winer 35 saves
The Johnstown Chiefs jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead, and then led 5-3 with just over three minutes remaining. The Chiefs were not able to hold the lead, as Jon Francisco tied the game with 14 seconds remaining. Doug Christiansen scored the overtime winner 1:33 into the extra period. Brad Thompson led the Chiefs with one goal and two assists, while newly reassigned Andre Deveaux had a goal and an assist. Brandon Elliott, Adam Henrich and Randy Rowe also scored for the Chiefs.

Game #62 (3/18/06) JOHNSTOWN 2 - Toledo 0 Winer 39 saves
Gabe Winer, signed from UMass at 5pm Friday, earned his first professional shutout and first professional win, as the Chiefs shutout Toledo for the second consecutive meeting. Brandon Elliott scored the game winner in the first period with a diving effort. Randy Rowe added the insurance goal, as Winer kept Toledo off the board. Andre Deveux added a helper on Rowe's goal.

Game #63 (3/19/06) JOHNSTOWN 1 - READING 0 Winer 28 saves
The Chiefs earned just their third win against Wheeling, but did it in convincing fashion, out hitting, out shooting and out scoring the Nailers, 6-2. Gabe Winer earned his second win as six different Chiefs scored goals. Andre Deveaux and Justin Kelly contributed one goal and two assists. Randy Rowe and Adam Henrich scored a goal and an assist. Jean Desrocher and Brandon Elliott also added tallies.
