Trenton Titans News Release

Last Meeting

January 26, 2013 - In a tight, back-and-forth affair, the Nailers picked up a rare road win, beating the Titans 3-2, with a late third period goal. Wheeling GK Peter Delmas stopped 42 shots for the win.

Next Meeting

The teams go at it again tomorrow at WesBanco Arena in a 7:00 pm contest

Record (Home/Away); Streaks

Wheeling: 23-23-3-655 points (17-6-1-3 Home, 2-7-0-1 in last 10 overall) - have lost the last four at home and lead the league with 11 decisions by Shootout (5-6). Trenton: 22-27-4-452 points (9-15-2-2 Road, 4-4-1-1- overall last 10). Titans are 4-6 in their last 10 on the Road.

A Pair Of Killers

Don't expect a lot of PPG in tonight's game, as two of the ECHL's best PK units are on display. Trenton is 2nd overall (86.2 percent) and 4th on the road at 84.7. Wheeling is the best in the league at home, killing penalties at an 89.1 rate and 85.3 overall (4th). Combined they've allowed just 63 PPG in 443 chances.

Plus, Wheeling has killed off the 2nd fewest PP chances in the league (211, Toledo has 200). That is probably because the Nailers have committed the 2nd fewest minor penalties (245, TOL-237).

Naughty Boys

Wheeling's Bobby Farnham isn't on the current Nailers' roster, but he still has the current top streak in the league for penalty minutes (PIM). He has eight straight games (46 PIM) where he has gotten a penalty, dating back to October 19, 2012.

Trenton's Ian Slater (currently in the AHL with Adirondack) has the league's second longest streak on the road - grabbing 30 PIM in six straight road games since December 7, 2012.

Does 5 Equal A Month?

Making a pitch to pick Schultz for POTM with only five games played

To be Player of the Month in any league, choices are made based on what you did all month. But what if you did a month's worth of work in less than a week?

Stephen Schultz has made a case for that. Injured after a hat trick in FLA on February 1, he missed 8 games (20 days), where the Titans went 2-5-1.

Since returning on the February 22, he has 7 G (all PPG), 4 Assists, 2 First Goals (FG) and a GWG, as Trenton went 2-1-0-1 in those games.

All told he has 10 G (8 PPG, 3 FG and a GWG), 4 Assists, a 5-game point streak and a 3-1-0-1 record in just 5 games. PLUS, he has two hat tricks, tied an ECHL record for PPG in a game (4), has 7 PPG over the last three games on just 10 shots and was last week's Player of the Week in the ECHL.

No, Schultz may not get POTM for February since he played in under half of the Titans games...but you can't say he didn't give it one heck of a run.
