
Hudson, Coleman Lead Aces Past Condors 5-1

Alex Hudson's first career two-goal game and Gerald Coleman's 30 save performance led Alaska to a 5-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors from the Sullivan Arena on Thursday night. The win for Alaska was their ninth in the last eleven games and marked the opening of a three-game set with Bakersfield. Alaska finished a terrific month of February with a 9-1-3 record. The Aces bettered their ECHL-leading record to 41-12-6. Alaska extended their lead to seven points ahead of the Ontario Reign for the top spot in the ECHL standings and 11 points ahead of the Idaho Steelheads for the Mountain division lead. The Aces remain home to finish their home stand with Friday night and Sunday afternoon matchups with the Condors. Alaska dominated the opening period, scoring four times and outshooting Bakersfield 17-6 in the frame. The Aces wasted no time, striking quickly when Hudson scored against his former team at 2:28 of the period. Hudson then scored his second of the game at 9:41 to make it 2-0 Alaska. Sean Curry scored on a wrist shot from the left circle at 15:21 for the Aces third goal, and Alex Imbeault scored from the right circle at 16:38 to complete the first period onslaught. Alaska took a 4-0 lead into the second period.
At the beginning of the second period, the Condors pulled starting goaltender Scott Greenham in favor of relief netminder Brian Stewart. The Aces and Condors each had 15 shots on goal, but Stewart and Alaska goaltender, Gerald Coleman kept the frame scoreless.
Bakersfield snapped Coleman's shutout bid when Peter Boyd's shot deflected off of Garry Nunn and into the Alaska net at 6:44 on a goalmouth scramble. The goal snapped a shutout streak of 117:57 for Coleman. Alaska finished the scoring when Bobby Hughes scored on the power play at 12:41.
Gerald Coleman (19-4-1) made 30 saves on 31 shots earning the win. Scott Greenham (10-17-2) made 13 saves on 17 shots in one period of work, taking the loss. Stewart stopped 30 of 31 shots in two periods of relief work, and did not figure into the decision. The Aces went 1-4 on the power play and the Condors were 0-2. Alaska outshot Bakersfield 48-31 in the game.
