TinCaps Use Two Run Homer to Beat Captains 3-1

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH) - Fort Wayne defeated Lake County by a score of 3-1 on Saturday Night at Classic Park. The big hit in the inning was a two run homer by Yeison Asencio. The blast to left field was the second of the season for Asencio and the score after four innings was 2-0 TinCaps. The TinCaps even the season series at two game a piece. The Captains were one for eleven with runners in scoring position.

Fort Wayne extended the lead by another run when Kyle Gaedele walked to being the inning and then raced home when Tyler Stubblefield doubled to left field. After five innings it was a 3-0 TinCap lead.

The Captains scored a in the bottom of the seventh inning when Zach MacPhee walked and moved to third on a two base throwing error on the Fort Wayne pitcher. MacPhee came across home plate when Francisco Liondor grounded out to the second basemen. The score of the ballgame was after seven full inning was 3-1 in favor of Fort Wayne.

RHP Matt Wisler (2-3) got the nod for Fort Wayne. Wisler got the win for the TinCaps. Wisler pitched five full innings, he allowed five hits, walked one and struck out eight Captains. James Needy pitched two innings, he allowed one hit and one un-earned run. Johnny Barbato got the save for Fort Wayne. It was his first save of the season. Fort Wayne struck out 14 Captains for the third time this season.

RHP Felix Sterling (2-5) took the ball for the Captains and got the loss. Sterling pitched five innings, allowed five hits, three runs and all three were earned. Felix walked two and struck out four. Sterling allowed the Homerun to Asencio. The homer was the ninth that he has surrendered this season. Rob Nixon pitched two hitless innings he struck out one. Luis DeJesus pitched the final two innings he walked one and struck out three.

Sunday is a Family Fun Day and will feature a pre-game player autograph session, expanded in-stadium entertainment and activities, an enhanced Kids' Zone area with new inflatables including a new speed pitch and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. It is also Nautical Day featuring several water-craft on display and boating and water safety displays. Game time is 1:00 PM. The Captains will start LHP Elvis Araujo (2-4, 3.19) vs. RHP Ruben Mejia (1-1, 4.74) for Fort Wayne.
