Snappers Fang Rattlers to Tie It Up

Beloit, WI- The Beloit Snappers pulled into a tie for the division lead with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night with a 9-5 win in front of 2,226 fans at Pohlman Field. The Snappers had a five run bottom of the fourth, followed by a four-run bottom of the fifth to secure the lead and pick up their 34th win.

While the Timber Rattlers took an early 2-0 lead, the Snappers snapped back with a five run bottom of the fourth. Miguel Sano led off the inning with a double, his 12th of the season, then Drew Leachman singled advancing Sano to third. Matt Koch ripped a two-run double to put the Snappers on the board. The Snappers kept momentum going when Kyle Knudson hit a two RBI single scoring Leachman and Koch putting the Snappers up 5-2.

After the Timber Rattlers scored two in the top half of the fifth, they brought in reliever Stephen Peterson to pitch the bottom half. The Snappers added two off Peterson with Nate Roberts' two RBI Single heightening the lead to 9-4.

Tim Atherton relieved Matt Summers in the sixth and gave up one run on a Brandon Macias RBI single driving in Yadiel Rivera, making it 9-5 Snappers. Tyler Cravy entered the game for the Timber Rattlers in the bottom of the sixth and led off by hitting Miguel Sano, the third batter in the Snappers lineup to be hit.

Jason Rogers led off the seventh for the Timber Rattlers with a huge double, but Atherton went on to strike out the next three batters he faced.

After Corey Williams' shutout eighth inning for the Snappers, reliever Michael Tonkin entered the game in the ninth and struck out two, not allowing a hit to close out the game and give the Snappers the 9-5 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. With the win the Snappers improve to 34-22, and move into a tie for first place with the Timber Rattlers in the Western Division in the Midwest League.

The Snappers and Timber Rattlers play again tomorrow for game two in the series at 2:00PM.
