Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Midland, MI - The Fort Wayne TinCaps and Great Lakes Loons went toe-to-toe in the early innings, trading runs Tuesday at Dow Diamond. The TinCaps left the Loons in the dust in the middle innings, scoring eight runs on their way to a 10-5 win. Adam Zornes ripped a three-run double and Jaff Decker drilled a three-run homer. Three relievers combined on four hitless innings.
The TinCaps combined for nine runs against two of the Dodgers' top prospects, RHPs Ethan Martin and Nathan Eovaldi.
Trailing 4-2 going to the 4th inning, the TinCaps loaded the bases with nobody out. Zornes turned on an inside pitch and hit a bases-clearing double to the wall in left, giving Fort Wayne a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the 4th , Kyle Russell flared a two-out RBI single to left to tie the game at 5-5.
Fort Wayne took the lead for good in the 5th on Allan Dykstra's sacrifice fly to right, making it 6-5. In the 6th , Decker hammered his three-run homer to right-center off Eovaldi, who allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings. Later in the inning, Kevin Hansen slapped a two-out RBI double down the right-field line to finish the scoring at 10-5.
The TinCaps' bullpen controlled the Loons in the game's latter stages. LHPs Rob Musgrave and Zach Herr and RHP Alexis Lara combined on four hitless innings.
LHP Mike Watt (7-2) labored through five innings, allowing five runs, but still managed to pick up the win. Eovaldi (2-5) took the loss.
