
Francis' Four Hits Lead Bees to Victory over Peoria

Peoria, IL (August 11, 2009) - The Burlington Bees opened a four-game series at Peoria defeating the first-place Chiefs 4-2 Tuesday night. Nick Francis had four hits and came up a homerun short of the cycle while Ivor Hodgson pitched seven innings allowing one unearned run for his second win of the season.
The Bees opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. With one out, Adrian Ortiz doubled and moved to third on a ground-out. Francis then hit a two-out single to score Ortiz and give the Bees the lead. Francis stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Jason Taylor was walked, Francis scored from third on another wild pitch and the Bees led 2-0.
The Bees added to their lead scoring one run in both the third and fourth innings. In the third, David Wood singled with two outs and then scored on a Francis double. In the fourth, Jose Bonilla singled with one out, moved to second and third on consecutive Fielder's Choices before scoring on an error to give the Bees a 4-0 lead. Peoria scored one run in both the sixth and seventh innings to get back within two runs. In the ninth, the Chiefs had the potential tying run on base but could not get it home.
Hodgson got the start for the Bees and was very good. He pitched a season-high seven innings allowing one unearned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. He allowed a hit to the first batter he faced and did not allow another hit until there was one out in the seventh inning. During that time span, Hodgson faced 23 batters without allowing a hit. James Thompson pitched 1.2 innings allowing one run on three hits and two walks. Thompson picked up his first hold of the season. Blaine Hardy recorded the final out of the ballgame for his sixth save this season.
The Bees had ten hits the game and outhit Peoria 10-5. Francis led the way going 4-5 with one run and two RBI. Francis came up a homerun short of hitting for the cycle. He was the only Bee with more than one hit. Taylor walked twice. Peoria committed four errors in the game.
The Bees continue the four-game series at Peoria on Wednesday night. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter for the Bees. Pitching on a rehab assignment, Chicago Cubs All-Star pitcher Ted Lilly will get the start for Peoria. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return to Community Field for a four-game series beginning on Saturday night.
