Dragons Complete Sweep, Top Lugnuts in 13th
LANSING, Mich. - Mike Konstanty drove in three runs and started a string of four consecutive two-out RBI singles in the 13th inning, as the Dayton Dragons (22-21; 50-63) outlasted the Lansing Lugnuts (16-27; 42-70), 6-2, to complete a four-game sweep on Monday night at Oldsmobile Park.
The Lugnuts lost their sixth consecutive game, dropping to 0-12 in extra-innings.
Facing Lansing reliever Yorman Mayora (5-3) to open the 13th inning, singles by Carlos Mendez and Alex Oliveras gave the Dragons a pair of baserunners with two outs. Konstanty, in his first start of the series, followed by bouncing a two-strike pitch into center field to plate Mendez. Chase Weems and Miguel Rojas succeeded Konstanty with run-scoring singles of their own. Jonas Cuotto relieved Mayora and was promptly greeted by a Tony Brown RBI single, rounding out the scoring.
Donnie Joseph (1-0) earned the win with two hitless, scoreless innings, part of a superlative relief effort by the Dragons. Justin Walker had held the Lugnuts hitless and scoreless from the sixth through the tenth innings. Mark James finished off the home squad with a scoreless 13th.
Back-to-back RBI singles from Kenny Wilson and Tyler Pastornicky had given the Lugnuts a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Dayton starter Ezequiel Infante.
Dayton answered back in the fourth inning, loading the bases on an error and two walks before Konstanty drilled a two-run double into the left field corner.
The Lugnuts begin a four-game road-trip at South Bend on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., starting right-hander Henderson Alvarez (8-6, 3.68) against Silver Hawks northpaw Ryan Cook (8-9, 3.57).
