Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
August 11, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce that catcher Anel De Los Santos has been placed on the 7-day DL with a left thumb sprain and catcher Nolan Brannon will join the Kernels from Orem. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the moves on Tuesday.
The Angels signed Brannon, 24, as a non-drafted free agent on July 15, 2008 out of the University of Tampa. He played three games with the AZL Angels in 2008, batting .250 with a double and 2 RBI and has played seven games at Orem this year. This is his second time with the Kernels in 2009, as he was with the team from July 27 to August 2, but did no play in any games.
Brannon will be in Cedar Rapids and available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players with four on the disabled list.
The playoff-bound Kernels open a four game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tonight at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
