Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

DAYTON, OH- The West Michigan Whitecaps scored all eight of their runs Tuesday night with two outs, and the 'Caps snapped their four-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory over the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field. The Whitecaps pushed six runs across in the second inning and added two more in the eighth for the game-one win in the series.

Hitting with runners on base has been a problem for the 'Caps lately but not Tuesday night. Joe Bowen began a 6-run rally in the second with a single. Luis Salas would follow with a hit of his own, and Gustavo Nunez drove in Bowen with a base hit. After a Wyatt walk, Alden Carrithers ripped a two-run single to left for a 3-0 'Caps lead. Ben Guez was then hit by a pitch, and Jordan Lennerton crushed a double to right center to clear the bases and put the 'Caps ahead, 6-0.

Anthony Shawler was a 'spot' starter for the 'Caps, and he threw well in his four, shutout innings. Shawler only allowed 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out six. He didn't throw the necessary 5 innings to qualify for the win.

Dayton made the game much closer in the fifth with 4 runs of their own. Five hits, including 3 doubles, helped the Dragons pull to within 6-4.

West Michigan regrouped in the eighth as Alden Carrithers tripled in Luis Salas who had singled, and Ben Guez came through with a single to plate Carrithers for an 8-4 Whitecaps' lead.

Tyler Conn picked up the win going 3 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out two.

Alden Carrithers finished the game 3-4 with 2 RBI. Billy Nowlin collected 2 hits as did Luis Salas. Jordan Lennerton had 3 RBI.

The Whitecaps and Dragons play game two of the series on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.
