LHP Osvaldo Hernandez vs. RHP Mac Sceroler

Friday, Aug. 3 - Parkview Field - 7:05 PM (Game 109)

THURSDAY NIGHT: Hunter Jarmon hit a walk-off single in his Fort Wayne debut to push the TinCaps over the Dragons, 5-4. Jarmon arrived to Fort Wayne on Thursday morning after his flights Wednesday were delayed. Also, MacKenzie Gore dominated to toss 5 scoreless innings, allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks while collecting 8 strikeouts.

0 FOR OSVALDO: Osvaldo Hernandez hasn't allowed an earned run over his last 4 starts, going back to July 3. (He did allow 3 earned runs on July 9 in a piggyback relief role.) Over his last 22.1 IP as a starter, Hernandez has 19 strikeouts against 3 walks. His manager, Anthony Contreras, says Hernandez is "a tremendous competitor. Very athletic. Can throw multiple pitches for strikes, from different angles. He's not big, but he's not scared of anybody. He's learned to calm himself down and pitch under control... He's very energetic and has to harness his energy, and control it, and use it in the right way. He's done a good job lately of knowing when to take a deep breath, take a step back, and regroup. Last year he'd just get on the mound and fire without processing what was going on. He's more mature now and understanding himself."

LEAGUE LEADERS: Osvaldo Hernandez has the lowest ERA (1.85).... Aaron Leasher ranks 7th in ERA (3.44)... Travis Radke is 3rd in saves (13)... Jeisson Rosario ranks tied for 5th in runs (65), 8th in OBP (.382), and 9th in walks (53) ... Esteury Ruiz is 4th in stolen bases (34).

ADVANCED STATS LEADER: Osvaldo Hernandez has the lowest FIP (2.93), 2nd lowest HR/9 (0.19), 8th lowest BB/9 (2.24), 9th highest GB% (44%), 9th lowest LD% (17%), 10th best K/BB (3.48).

IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have walked the fewest batters in the Midwest League this season - 309 in 938.0 IP. That's only 3.0 BB/9. Fort Wayne also has the best ratio of strikeouts to walks (3.09/1).

HEATING UP: Gabriel Arias is on a season-best 12-game on-base streak. Going back to July 19, the 18-year-old from Venezuela has a team-best .380 OBP and is 12-for-43 (.279) with 2 doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBIs, 7 walks, and 7 runs.

SUWI 3: Tonight is the first time in 82 games this season that Jack Suwinski is batting 3rd. In 125 games last year he hit 3rd once.

HOME SWEET HOME: The TinCaps are 20-33 (.377) on the road this season compared to 30-25 (.545) at Parkview Field. At home, the team is batting .261 averaging 4.7 runs/game. On the road, the team is batting .223 with 3.7 R/G.

ON THE SHELF: The TinCaps currently have 4 key players on the Disabled List in catcher Luis Campusano (mild concussion), starting pitcher Mason Thompson (tricep strain), infielder Justin Lopez (broken left thumb), and outfielder Tirso Ornelas (right wrist).

PUTTING THE FORT IN FORTNITE: In advance of "Fortnite Night" at Parkview Field on Saturday, Aug. 11, yesterday, TinCaps catcher/first baseman Jalen Washington and lefty reliever Fred Schlichtholz played Fortnite from the "TinCapsBaseball" account, interacting with friends from around the nation and even outside the country. Starter MacKenzie Gore also joined in. On the 11th, the team will be wearing special jerseys that fans in attendance will have a chance to win. More details are available at TinCapsFortnite.com.
