Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit, WI - Bryce Conley had an encouraging start in his return from the disabled list, but that was just about all that went right for the Snappers on Thursday night in a 10-2 loss to the Cougars. Kane County blew the game open in the sixth inning against lefty Josh Reagan, who allowed six runs (five earned) in relief of Conley. Right-hander relievers Wandisson Charles and Jamito Lebron both walked three batters apiece, leading to a pitching appearance from Jack Meggs, who started the game as the designated hitter.

Conley (3-4, 4.55 ERA) held Kane County hitless through the first three innings, but Yoel Yanqui led off the fourth with a 413-foot missile over the right field fence, giving the Cougars an early 1-0 advantage. Conley's night ended after those four innings of one-run ball. He struck out five without issuing a walk.

After Ryan Grotjohn scored the Cougars' second run on an error by left fielder Logan Farrar in the fifth inning, Kane County teed off against Reagan in the sixth. RBI singles from Jancarlos Cintron and Luis Lara put the Cougars up 5-0 before Eudy Ramos's two-run double extended their lead to seven.

Kane County reached double digits thanks to RBI knocks from Tim Susnara and Grotjohn in the ninth, prompting Beloit manager Webster Garrison to call Meggs, normally an outfielder, to the mound. His first professional pitching appearance was a scoreless one, as Meggs induced a Ramos pop-out and a groundout from Ryan Dobson to finish the ninth.

The Snappers had baserunners in all but two innings on Thursday, yet could not break through against Cougars starter Lane Ratliff (3-1, 3.54 ERA). The Kane County lefty allowed just a run - an RBI single from Athletics No. 5 prospect Austin Beck in the seventh- on eight hits. Ratliff walked one and struck out six. Beloit's only other run came on Ryan Gridley's RBI double in the ninth.

Several Snappers had nice nights at the plate: Beck, Meggs, and Mickey McDonald all posted two-hit performances. Beloit was just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, however, and left nine men on base.

The Snappers will look for the series split tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. CT. Kane County will send Franklyn Soriano (0-1, 3.86 ERA) to the hill, while Beloit has yet to announce its probable starter.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics since 2013. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362-2272 or on our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
