Kane County Cougars News Release

Beloit, Wisconsin - The Kane County Cougars (54-55, 19-21) dropped the rubber game of a three-game series, 5-3, against the Beloit Snappers (56-52, 24-15) on Friday night at Pohlman Field.

In the bottom of the first, Beloit took a 2-0 lead on Hunter Hargrove's towering two-run blast to left. After that mistake, Cougar starter Franklyn Soriano settled in to toss five consecutive scoreless innings. The lefty's night was done after the sixth. He allowed two runs on three hits, striking out four and walking one.

The Cougars cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning. Jose Caballero roped a run-scoring double down the left field line to make it 2-1. In that same inning, the Cougars stranded the potential tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.

The Cougar run in the fifth was the only one Snappers' starter Jean Ruiz gave up in his outing. The right-hander took no-decision, despite seven innings on the hill.

In the bottom of the seventh, Beloit extended the lead on Ryan Gridley's sacrifice fly. The Cougars came back to tie the game in the top of the eighth. After a one-out single Jose Caballero advanced to third on Yoel Yanqui's single. Caballero scored on a wild pitch. Tim Susnara evened the game, 3-3, with an opposite field RBI single.

The Snappers decisive frame was the bottom of the eighth. After a single, an error on pitcher Abraham Almonte then a fielder's choice put runners at the corners with just one out. Austin Beck came to the plate and singled up the middle to give the Snappers a 4-3 advantage. Logan Farrar provided insurance with a broken-bat RBI single.

Zambrano (7-1) earned the win for the Snappers. He surrendered two runs on four hits over two innings.

Abraham Almonte (0-3) took the loss, allowed three unearned runs in an inning of work. Kyler Stout was not charged with any runs. He tossed the final frame for the Cougars.

The Cougars head to Burlington, Iowa to take on the Bees to begin a three-game set on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jayson McKinley (5-3, 3.54) takes the ball for the Cougars. Follow the action live on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
