South Bend Cubs News Release
SOUTH BEND, IN - Three college-bound high school softball and baseball players from across northern Indiana and southwestern lower Michigan have each earned a $5,000 scholarship from the South Bend Cubs.
The scholarship process is a challenging yet rewarding task for high school seniors who participate in organized baseball and softball. To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must live in one of the 11 counties surrounding Four Winds Field. Additionally, a candidate submits a written essay to demonstrate why he or she deserved the scholarship. Finally, applicants must send in a letter of recommendation from a coach, school administrator, or employer who can describe the applicant and why he or she should be selected as a scholarship recipient.
"After another year of tremendous and well-thought out applications, we are pleased to award three scholarships to a trio of amazing athletes," South Bend Cubs Owner Andrew Berlin said. "These athletes represent the best northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan has to offer. They not only are skilled on the field, but they make considerable contributions off the field as well."
The 2018 South Bend Cubs Scholarship winners:
Shayla Noble, Plymouth High School (Softball)
Kendall Whitelow, Niles High School (Baseball)
Alexander Voss, St. Joseph High School (Baseball)
"We received hundreds of top notch applications," South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart said. "The essays, along with the letters of recommendation really showed how special these young athletes truly are. We are proud to award these scholarships."
All three scholarship winners will be recognized at the South Bend Cubs home game at Four Winds Field on Friday, August 10 in an on-field presentation with South Bend Cubs Owner Andrew Berlin and Team President Joe Hart.
