Tigers Top 'Cats 3-1

Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - After coming from behind en route to victories in the past two games, the Tri-City ValleyCats fell just a bit short on Wednesday, dropping a 3-1 contest to the Connecticut Tigers, to conclude a three-game series at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Tri-City took the lead first, when Anthony Hermelyn drove home Dexture McCall with a two-out double in the bottom of the second inning, to put the 'Cats on top 1-0.

Unfortunately, Connecticut second baseman Patrick Mackenzie tied the game with a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth frame, and the Tigers went on to score one run in the seventh, and one run in the eighth, while holding the 'Cats scoreless the rest of the way.

The loss prevented Tri-City from giving Ed Romero his 128th victory as the manager of the ValleyCats, which would break the record of 127 wins, set by Gregg Langbehn, who managed the team from 2004-2006.

Romero will another chance at breaking Langbehn's record when Tri-City visits the Vermont Lake Monsters, at 7:05 p.m., on Thursday, to begin a three-game series at Centennial Field, in Burlington, Vermont. On the mound for the ValleyCats will be LHP Alex Winkelman (5-0, 2.70), with RHP Corey Miller (2-2, 2.53) getting the start for the Lake Monsters.
