Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - August 26, 2015 - The Brooklyn Cyclones were shut out at home at the hands of the Hudson Valley Wednesday night, dropping the second of a three-game series against the Renegades with a final score of 4-0. Righty Gaby Almonte (6-6) takes the loss for Brooklyn after putting in 6.0 innings of work, allowing 10 hits, four runs, all earned and striking out five. The 'Clones recorded just five hits throughout the contest and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position, leaving eight runners on base.
Although the teams matched zeroes through the first four frames, the going got rough for the Cyclones in the fifth. Almonte began with a leadoff walk to Michael Russell, who stole second with Angel Moreno at bat. Moreno then sent a line drive double to left field, tacking on the first run of the game for Hudson Valley. Sandwiched between two strike outs by Almonte was a double by Manny Sanchez that scored Moreno to further the Renegade lead. A passed ball by Brooklyn catcher Manuel Hilario sent Sanchez to third and a bomb triple to center field scored another for Hudson Valley. A single to follow would notch one more on the board for the Renegades before the inning ended with the Cyclones facing a four-run deficit.
Brandon Welch came in from the bullpen for Brooklyn in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings. In holding off Hudson Valley, the righty allowed only one hit, with 30 of his 41 pitches coming as strikes. Despite a ninth inning double by Zach Mathieu, the Boys of Summer were unable to record a run, taking the loss by a score of 4-0.
The Cyclones kickoff a three-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds Thursday night with right-hander Jose Celas (1-1) taking the mound for Brooklyn. Be sure to arrive at the ballpark early to enjoy the last Jersday Thursday of the season. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a throwback jersey courtesy of MCU as we celebrate the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. Tickets start at just $10 and are still available for purchase at the MCU Park Box Office, by calling (718)507-TIXX or right here at BrooklynCyclones.com.
