Trenton Thunder News Release
Altoona, PA- Three runs in the top of the ninth inning provided much-needed insurance for Trenton, as they were able to hold on and defeat the Curve 6-3 on Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark. With the win, Trenton improves to 69-47 on the year.
Altoona struck first off RHP Hector Noesi, who came into the game having lost three straight games. Miles Durham doubled to left field and was later driven in on an RBI single by Kris Watts to give Altoona a 1-0 lead. The run was the only one allowed by Noesi, who left after giving up ten hits in five innings pitched.
Curve LHP Rudy Owens left after tossing five shutout innings, and the Thunder capitalized on a walk to Corban Joseph and a Chase d'Arnaud error, which allowed Austin Romine to reach base. Both runners moved up a base on a Tom Boleska wild pitch and scored on a two-run double by Daniel Brewer to put Trenton in front 2-1. The Curve tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single from Andrew Lambo, but the Thunder jumped back in front in the top of the eighth inning. With Joseph at third and one out, Brewer hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field, allowing the runner to tag up and score the go-ahead run.
With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Trenton came away with three runs on five hits, including back-to-back RBI singles by Austin Krum and Justin Christian to give Trenton a 6-2 lead. Ryan Pope allowed one run in the bottom of the ninth inning before getting Kris Watts to pop up and end the game.
Trenton was outhit in the game 15-10. It is just the eleventh time this year Trenton won after being outhit by their opponent.
Trenton and Altoona will play the middle game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Andrew Brackman will throw for the Thunder, while the Curve hand the ball to LHP Tony Watson. Catch all the action on 107.7 FM The Bronc or at www.trentonthunder.com.
