Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros revealed their entire schedule for the 2011 regular season today, joining forces in the release with the rest of the Double-A Eastern League. Akron will begin the regular season with a seven-game home stand at Canal Park, starting Thursday, April 7th at 7:05 p.m. for Opening Day against the Binghamton Mets. The season again features 71 home games in Ohio and the release of the full Aeros promotion schedule will be during the upcoming off-season.
The Aeros will get used to a third of the 12-team circuit in a 28-game stretch that begins the 2011 season. Beginning with the season-opening home stand against Binghamton and Altoona, Akron will play the entirety of their schedule through May 5th against only four teams. The other two squads included in that stretch are the Reading Phillies and the Bowie Baysox, who will each play six games against the Aeros in April.
Following this tough start Akron will host the Trenton Thunder for three games at Canal Park before embarking on yet another seven-game road trip to Erie and Bowie. After an off day, the Aeros then play a home-and-road six-game series against Altoona from May 17th through May 22nd before an eight-game home stand, tied for the longest of the year.
Akron makes its only trip to New Britain and Portland in June along with hosting New Hampshire. Starting on June 30th, the Aeros will then play the Erie SeaWolves for 16 of 29 contests through the end of July. The Eastern League All-Star Break will then feature the Northeast Delta Dental 2011 All-Star Game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium hosted by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in Manchester, NH on Wednesday, July 13th.
The home schedule winds down with a weeklong set to end the month of July followed by only six games in Akron in the first 24 days of August. The Aeros will then have their final home stand of the season in eight games against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Reading Phillies with the final home contest scheduled for Thursday, September 1st.
A new start time will be noticeable throughout the 2011 season with all 11 Sunday games at Canal Park starting at 1:05 p.m. this year. This earlier start time returns to Akron after the past two years utilized a 1:35 p.m. first pitch time for Sunday afternoons.
The vast majority of weekday and Saturday home games at Canal Park will begin at 7:05 p.m. during the upcoming season. Exceptions to this rule include a special 1:05 p.m. first pitch for the first three Saturday games along with a 3:05 p.m. start on Good Friday, April 22nd against Reading and a 12:05 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday, June 29th against Bowie
The fan-favorite Education Days will also return in 2011 with three 10:35 a.m. first pitch times scheduled in the earlier section of the season. The first morning contest featuring fans from many local schools is April 13th against the Altoona Curve and the other early games are on May 19th against Altoona and May 26th with Harrisburg. The schedule also is relatively consistent with Akron hosting 14 games during the month of April, 14 games in May, 15 in June, 14 in July, 13 in August and then the final one in September.
The Aeros are working to finalize their entire promotional schedule but fan-favorites like Dollar Dog Mondays, Two for Tuesdays, Thirsty Thursdays and Fireworks Fridays are certain to return along with regular ticket discounts in April and May.
