Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, announced today that the team has signed defenseman Martin Nemcik.
Nemcik, 23, returns to the states for the first time since 2010-11 when he played for the Bay State Breakers of the EJHL. A native of Bratislava, Slovakia, the 6-foot-4, 201-pound blueliner returned to his native country and has been playing there since 2011-12.
During the 2013-14 season, he played for HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovakia league, racking up 122 penalty minutes to go along with six points (2g, 4a) in 55 games. Last year, he played in Austria for Orli Znojmo, finishing with 11 points (4g, 7a) and 64 penalty minutes in 47 games.
Nemcik will wear #91 and has been placed on reserve.
Wichita begins a seven-game road trip starting on Saturday night against the Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. The Thunder will not return home until December 20th to host the Cincinnati Cyclones for the first time in franchise history.
December 20th is also Star Wars Night, presented by Dunkin Donuts and WYHA. Come join us to celebrate the release of Star Wars, the Force Awakens with characters from the movie. The team will be wearing special Star Wars-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game. The proceeds from the auction will help benefit the Wichita Youth Hockey Association.
