
Goalie Vitek Vanecek Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that Vitek Vanecek has been named the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for November.
The is the second time this month he has earned league honors, after being named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week on November 17. Vanecek continued his stellar month, finishing November with a 4-2-1 record, a 1.26 goals-against average and a save percentage of .946 in seven appearances. He recorded his first professional shutout on Nov. 3, making 21 saves in a 2-0 win over Florida. He allowed two goals or less in six of seven appearances in November.
The 19-year-old Vanecek was a second-round selection (39th overall) of the Washington?Capitals in the 2014 NHL?Entry Draft. A native of the Czech Republic, Vanecek has appeared in 12 games this season, posting a record of 5-5-2. He ranks eighth overall in the league, and third among rookies, with a 2.00 goals-against average.
Prior to turning pro, Vanecek enjoyed extensive international experience representing the?Czech Republic. Vanecek was a member of the Czech Republic at the 2014 IIHF U18 World Championship, posting a 4-2-0 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage to help lead the Czech Republic to a silver medal.
Vanecek and the Stingrays continue their 10-game road trip in Norfolk tonight at 7:15 p.m. Fans are invited to catch the games at the Official Watch Party Destination of the Stingrays, King Street Grille-Northwoods.
