Game Day Preview: Missouri at Evansville

December 2, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release

MYSTERY ALASKA

The Evansville IceMen return from a successful trip to The Last Frontier, where the team took two of three games against the Alaska Aces in Anchorage. Evansville's offense came alive with four second period goals in Friday's 4-2 victory and five goals in Sunday's 5-3 win. The struggling IceMen power-play also showed its potential, as the team scored four goals on the man-advantage in three games. Evansville has won three of its last four games, and begins a stretch of seven games over the next 12 days.

GUP-TRICK

Alex Guptill, who had been scoreless in his first eight games with the IceMen, broke out in a big way Sunday. The Newmarket, ON native scored his first professional hat-trick in Evansville's 5-3 win over the Aces. Guptill recorded one goal in the first period and added two power-play goals 35 seconds apart in the first 2:01 of the second period to give the IceMen a 3-1 lead at the time. The former 3rd Round Pick of the Dallas Stars finished the game with seven shots on goal in his biggest game for Evansville since being sent to the IceMen November 13 from Binghamton.

MAC ATTACK

Rookie forward Justin MacDonald has been a big reason the IceMen have won three of their last four games. MacDonald, who is from the same hometown as Guptill, has four goals in his last five games and is plus-4 in the plus/minus department in that span. The winger had a goal and an assist in Sunday's 5-3 win, including the game-winning goal on a breakaway in the second period. Before signing in Evansville late in the 2014-15 season, MacDonald led all North American professional hockey players with 102 points in 46 games with the Watertown Wolves of the Federal Hockey League (FHL).

NO-LOSS NOVEMBER

The Missouri Mavericks capped off a historic November with four wins in five days to finish the month 12-0. The Mavs (17-2-0-1) come to the Ford Center with the best record in the ECHL entering December. Their last loss was a Halloween contest at Allen, when Missouri lost to the defending Kelly Cup Champions 2-1 October 31. Goalies Josh Robinson and Parker Milner have been a terrific tandem who have traded off starts all season. Both have seven or more wins, goals-against averages under 1.65 and save percentages above 93%. Missouri is led on offense by Tyler Barnes (10-13-23) and Jesse Root (13-12-25) who are averaging more than a point per game.
