Mavericks Celebrate 50 Seasons of Hockey History in Kansas City

INDEPENDENCE, MO - The Missouri Mavericks will be wearing specialty "throwback" jerseys during their home game on Saturday, Dec. 5 to celebrate 50 seasons of hockey history in Kansas City. The jerseys, modeled after the Kansas City Greyhounds (1933-1940), will be auctioned-off in a live auction directly following the game on Saturday. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Community Services League (CSL). The game is scheduled to start at 7:05p.m.
The Mavericks "throwback" jerseys are the first step in kicking off an exciting campaign to shine a light the hockey history of Kansas City. The Mavericks will unveil a special "Hockey History Wall" exhibit in the near future at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena, showcasing hockey memorabilia and replica jerseys of former Kansas City teams in a unique display.
"Many people are unaware of the rich professional hockey history of Kansas City and we hope to change that with the 'Hockey History Wall' project," said Lamar Hunt Jr, President & Owner of the Missouri Mavericks. "The Missouri Mavericks are the proud to honor the past and continue to grow a strong tradition of hockey excellence in Kansas City far into the future."
"The 'Hockey History Wall' project has been a very important project for us this year, but also a great deal of fun," said Hunt. "From doing extensive research on former teams to tracking down old photos, programs, articles and jerseys, we could not be more excited to pull everything together and present the finished product to our fans in the coming months."
