Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - In conjunction with the new Dodgers Route of Champions Nights at Dow Diamond, the Great Lakes Loons are excited to announce the names of three Dodger greats scheduled to participate in our upcoming Dodger-themed promotional nights.
Upcoming Dodgers Route of Champions Nights Tuesday, May 24 - Ramon Martinez Appearance
Tuesday, May 31 - Tommy Davis Appearance
Tuesday, June 28 - Tommy Lasorda Appearance
Martinez, visiting May 24, currently serves and a roving instructor for the Dodgers after 14 seasons as a pitcher within the organization. He spent 17 years in professional baseball and 14 in the major leagues where he established a career ERA of 3.67 (772 earned runs in 1,895.2 innings pitched), a 135-88 record and 1,427 strikeouts. Martinez shares the Dodgers record for most strikeouts in a game (18) with Sandy Koufax. The right-handed Dominican is sixth on the Los Angeles Dodgers all-time strikeouts list with 1,312; he is seventh in wins (123); and eighth in shutouts (20), innings pitched (1,731.2) and games started (262).
Dodger great Tommy Davis makes his appearance at Dow Diamond on May 31. Davis was a part of the 1963 World Champion Dodgers team. The eight-year Dodger holds the organization's fifth-best all-time batting average (among those with at least 1,800 at-bats) with .304. In his 18-year career, Davis collected 2,121 hits in 7,223 at-bats for a batting average of .294. The former major league outfielder and first baseman had 460 extra-base hits, 153 home runs, and 1,052 RBI.
No stranger to Dow Diamond, Tommy Lasorda will make his seventh visit to the Great Lakes Bay Region on June 28. Lasorda currently serves as the Dodgers Special Advisor to the Chairman and is the first featured Dodger in the Loons Route of Champions Series that has been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In 21 years, Lasorda managed the Dodgers to a record of 3,050-1,599 and picked up two World Championships (1981 and 1988) and four N.L. pennants along the way.
Every Tuesday home game for the Loons will be a Dodgers Route of Champions Night. This Dodger-themed promotional series will highlight former Loons players and the storied history of the Los Angeles Dodgers through in-game content, on-field contests and more. As part of the Dodgers Route of Champions promotional series, select Tuesday nights will feature appearances from Dodger greats. Listed player appearances have been confirmed but are subject to change.
