Lansing Lugnuts News Release
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Lance Durham delivered a clutch RBI double in a two-run eighth inning rally, as the Lansing Lugnuts (22-16) used defense and timely hitting to take down the South Bend Silver Hawks (17-23) 5-3 on Wednesday morning at Coveleski Stadium.
With the score tied 3-3, Jake Marisnick led off the eighth with a single against South Bend reliever Mike Bolsinger (Loss, 2-1). Marisnick quickly stole second, moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Jhoan Pimentel, and scored the go-ahead run on Durham's broken bat double to right field.
Oliver Dominguez delivered an insurance run two batters later, plating Durham with an RBI single to left field.
Lugnuts reliever Danny Barnes (Win, 3-0) earned the victory despite allowing one of two Yazy Arbelo home runs, a shot to right-center leading off the bottom of the seventh that tied the game at 3-3. Barnes recovered to set down the next six hitters, five via strikeout.
Steve Turnbull struck out the side around a Zach Walters triple in the ninth for his tenth save.
Lansing starting pitcher Sean Nolin received a hard-luck no-decision in the victory, twirling six strong innings, striking out seven and allowing just three hits, including an Arbelo two-run homer in the fourth.
The Hawks' first baseman now has a league-leading 13 home runs this season.
The Lugnuts and Silver Hawks play the rubber match of the series on Thursday night at 6:30, with Lugs right-hander Drew Hutchinson (1-1, 3.38) opposite South Bend left-hander Patrick Schuster (1-2, 4.43).
The Lugnuts return to Cooley Law School Stadium on Friday night for Pirates of the Caribbean Night on a Facebook Friday, with postgame LAFCU Fireworks! Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
