Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OHIO-The Dayton Dragons games on Thursday, May 19; Friday, May 20; and Saturday, May 21 will be televised from Fifth Third Field on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Basic Cable Channel 23 and Digital Channel 372). All three games begin at 7:00 p.m. The Dragons meet the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday and the Lake County Captains on Friday and Saturday.
Former Cincinnati Reds first baseman and Dragons manager Todd Benzinger will serve as the guest commentator on Thursday's telecast. Former Reds infielder Chris Sexton will work Friday's game. Reds Assistant Director of Media Relations Jamie Ramsey will work Saturday's game. Dragons Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations Tom Nichols will handle the play-by-play on all three telecasts.
Benzinger was the Dragons manager for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and a key member of the Cincinnati Reds 1990 World Series champions. He has handled color commentator duties on several telecasts so far in 2011.
Sexton starred at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati before going on to Miami University in Oxford, where is one of only two players in school history to have earned the Mid American Conference Player of the Year award (former Red Sox infielder Tim Naehring is the other). Sexton still holds the Miami record for both single season batting average (.429 in 1993) and career batting average (.382). He played for the Rockies in 1999 and the Reds in 2000. He also spent 10 years in the Minor Leagues, batting a combined .290. He hit over .300 at the Triple-A level in three different seasons. He has worked on Dragons telecasts since 2008.
Ramsey is the author of the blog, "Better Off Red" at www.reds.com . He is in his 11th season in the Reds Media Relations Department and his 15th year as part of the Reds organization. He is a native of Hamilton, Ohio and a graduate of Miami University.
"Better Off Red" is loaded with photos and provides an insider's view into Reds baseball in traditional as well as off-beat themes. The blog includes a daily offering of baseball information mixed with fun photos and interesting tidbits.
The Dragons will televise 25 games from Fifth Third Field this season. The telecasts are produced by the Dragons' in-house production crew. Among others scheduled for appearances as guest commentators are:
* Hall-of-fame baseball writer Hal McCoy
* WHIO TV-7 Sports Director Mike Hartsock
