BURLINGTON, IA (May 18)- The Clinton LumberKings (11-29) beat the Burlington Bees (28-10) by a score of 4-3 at Community Field on Wednesday night.
The LumberKings scored three runs in the second inning against Burlington RHP Tyler Vail. SS Jake Schlander (1-4) hit a two-run home run. Clinton finished the inning with a 3-0 lead.
Burlington responded with a single run in the second inning against Clinton LHP Edlando Seco. LF Douglas Landaeta (3-4) singled to center field to score 1B Josh Whitaker (2-4), who led off the inning with a double.
The Bees add one more run in the bottom of the third inning sparked by a John Nester (0-0) walk that would eventually see Nester score after a groundout to the shortstop by RF Royce Consigli (0-3).
3B Wade Kirkland (1-4) doubled to right field in the bottom of the sixth and scored on a groundout by SS Yordy Cabrera (0-4) to even up the score at 3-3.
In the seventh inning Clinton DH Tim Morris (0-5) reached first base on a fielding error by Bees' SS Yordy Cabrera. A steal and a throwing error allowed Morris to move to third base. He scored on a Mickey Wiswall (1-4) sacrifice fly to give Clinton a 4-3 lead.
The Bees and Clinton LumberKings finish out their series on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. It's "Community Basket Day."
