Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars have designated the Friday, September 3 game as Star Wars Night at Elfstrom Stadium. The 7 p.m. game that evening will include numerous events and promotions to celebrate the theme including a costume parade for fans before the game, in-game contests, and a fireworks show after the game choreographed to the Star Wars movie score.

The Star Wars film series, which has grown to include books, video games, television series, collectibles and a worldwide legion of fans over the years - is firmly rooted as a pop phenomenon and will be celebrated throughout the evening on September 3.

"It's impossible to pinpoint exactly how many Star Wars admirers there are in the Chicagoland area, but we're counting on all fans of Star Wars - both the serious and casual fans - to make plans to have some fun with the Cougars on September 3," Cougars Assistant General Manager Jeff Ney said.

The September 3 Star Wars Night game kicks off the Labor Day holiday weekend as the Cougars will offer three straight evenings of fireworks shows and scheduled appearances by Dave the Horn Guy, Birdzerk and the Zooperstars throughout the extended holiday weekend.

With just 13 regular season home games ahead, fans are encouraged to check out several upcoming theme games which are on the Cougars' schedule.

Breast Cancer Awareness Day (August 15) - The Cougars, in conjunction with Cancer Treatment Centers of America, are inviting all breast cancer survivors and their families to take part in this Sunday's 1 p.m. game. The first 2,000 fans through the gates that afternoon will receive a pink wristband. Cougars players will be wearing commemorative cancer awareness jerseys and all survivors and their families are invited to take part in a pre-game victory parade on the field.

Bark in the Park (August 23) - The dog days of summer wouldn't be complete without the Cougars' annual Bark in the Park, presented in part by Purina, which takes place on Monday, August 23 at 6:30 p.m. That evening, dogs are allowed into the ballpark for free and can take occupancy with their owners on the right field lawn area. Before the game, a parade will give pets and their owners a chance to walk a lap around the field. In-game contests for the largest and smallest dog along with a couple of surprises will take place, and after the game, fans and their pooches can return to the field and run the bases. Dog restroom and water stations will be situated near the right field lawn area that night, and all dogs are required to be on a leash at all times.

High School Sports Business Seminars (August 24, September 1, September 2) - High school classes can take part in the Cougars' Sports Business Seminars, scheduled for three dates later this summer. Nearly 1,000 students representing 30 high schools in an eight-county region took part in the Cougars' inaugural seminars last spring. For each of the three dates, high school classes will participate in a seminar led by the Cougars front office, detailing the business side of working in sports and focusing on career opportunities within the industry. Afterwards, classes will watch a game - each of the three dates features a 6:30 p.m. game. Group reservations are required as space is limited. Interested teachers may contact Shawn Touney at (630) 232-8811 x .1243.

Tickets for all remaining games are available at www.kccougars.com or by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811. In addition to the spring sports business seminars, the Cougars have hosted a variety of popular favorites as well as some new offerings, as part of their themed events this year. Those events have included a Halfway to Halloween this past May sponsored by Nicor, a pre-game Catholic Mass on the Grass last month, and a Jimmy Buffett Theme Day in August, among others.
