Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH-The Famous Chicken will appear at Fifth Third Field for one night only in 2010, on Wednesday, August 11 when the Dayton Dragons host the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:00 p.m. The chicken will perform between innings of the Dragons game with his unique collection of comedy skits that is certain to entertain fans of all ages.

The Famous Chicken, also known as the San Diego Chicken, has appeared at Major League and Minor League ballparks across the nation since 1974, when Ted Giannoulas originated the character at a San Diego Padres game.

The popularity of the Famous Chicken throughout the 1970's and 1980's led to the development of mascot characters on a widespread basis throughout sports. The Sporting News named the Chicken as one of the 100 most powerful people in sports for the 20th century. Still popular in his 37th year on tour, the Chicken was named as the #1 most favorite mascot in sports earlier this year by Forbes magazine.

The success of the Chicken has made the character so well-known in sports that it has appeared in numerous movies and television commercials, including a recent SONY commercial also featuring Peyton Manning and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Following Wednesday's game, the Chicken will sign all autograph requests.

The appearance of the Chicken at Fifth Third Field is presented by Great Clips.
