Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-The West Michigan Whitecaps broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the seventh inning on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Monday night before a crowd of 8,331 at Fifth Third Field. The Whitecaps have won the first three games in the series and will go for the sweep on Tuesday.

The Dragons took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kevyn Feiner lined a double to the left field corner to start the inning and went to third on Henry Rodriguez's single to center. Mark Fleury followed with a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Feiner with the game's first run. Rodriguez stole second, went to third on Ryan LaMarre's single to center, and scored on Cameron Satterwhite's hit to center to make it 2-0.

West Michigan tied the game in the sixth inning when Rob Brantly singled with one out and scored on Jeff Rowland's triple to right center. Rowland came in on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Hernan Perez to even the score at 2-2.

The Whitecaps took the lead against Dayton reliever Junior Martinez in the seventh. Martinez allowed a lead-off walk and after a throwing error by first baseman Tommy Nurre, Wade Gaynor reached on an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Martinez uncorked a wild pitch to bring in the tie-breaking run and allowed a two-run single by Avisail Garcia to close out the scoring in the inning as West Michigan jumped ahead 5-2.

The Dragons rallied in the eighth. Andrew Means reached on an error, stole second, and scored on Feiner's triple to left to make it 5-3.

But reliever Jordan Pratt came out of the West Michigan bullpen and struck out Henry Rodriguez, then got Mark Fleury to fly out to right to end the threat. West Michigan scored three runs against Dragons reliever Kevin Arico in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Dayton starting pitcher Daniel Corcino worked the first six innings in his Dragons debut. He allowed five hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts and was not involved in the decision. Martinez (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in two innings of work.

The Dragons finished with nine hits. Feiner was 2 for 4 with a double and triple. Rodriguez and Chase Weems each had two hits.

The Dragons (10-32) host West Michigan (19-24) in the last game of a four-game series on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Ricky Bowen (2-6, 6.13) will start for Dayton against West Michigan's Jared Wesson (4-1, 2.45).
