South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks were looking for a third consecutive outstanding pitching performance Monday night at Coveleski Stadium, this time from Adam Worthington. However, Lake County scored five times in the first and wouldn't look back in an 11-2 victory.

Delvi Cid, Casey Frawley, Adam Abraham, and Chris Kersten all recorded hits off Worthington (LP, 3-4) before the game's first out was recorded and all eventually scored. Roberto Perez and Jason Smit chipped in RBIs later in the inning before Worthington struck out the final two batters of the frame. All in all, the Captains scored five times in the first while sending nine batters to the plate.

Worthington rebounded to toss three straight perfect innings in the second, third, and fourth, all in all setting down 11 Captains in order. This gave the South Bend offense time to attempt a rally, with Matt Davidson crushing a two-run blast in the fourth to make the score 5-2. The homer was Davidson's 15th of the season and increased his RBI total to a league-leading 74.

However, Lake County's offense got back on track with three runs in the fifth. Similar to the first, Cid led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a RBI single by Frawley. Later in the inning, Perez doubled home Frawley and Abraham to put Lake County up 8-2.

Randy Rodriguez (ND) relieved Worthington with two perfect innings before allowing a two-run homer to Smit in the eighth that extended the Lake County lead to 10-2. Rodriguez was charged with another run when Frawley picked up a RBI single before Rafael Quezada (ND) finished the game with 1.2 scoreless innings.

Davidson's homer was all South Bend could muster against Lake County starter Brett Brach (WP, 4-6). Brach tossed 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out a season-high nine. Jeremy Johnson (ND) and Jose Flores (ND) each tossed a perfect frame to close out the victory for Lake County, as South Bend didn't record a hit after the fifth inning.

The Silver Hawks look to win the four-game series with the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. South Bend sends RHP Diogenes Rosario (4-6, 4.04 ERA) to the mound, with LHP Giovanni Soto (7-6, 2.57 ERA) throwing for Lake County. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
