Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Clinton right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen was honored today as the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week, announced by the Midwest League office in Beloit, WI. The 26-year-old Wilhelmsen became the first LumberKing to win a Player of the Week award (hitter or pitcher) this year, going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA, four walks and 12 strikeouts over his two starts during the week.

Wilhelmsen made his debut with the LumberKings on Monday at Time Warner Cable Field in Grand Chute, WI, dominating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with seven scoreless innings and five strikeouts in Clinton's 5-0 win. On Saturday, he faced Wisconsin again, this time limiting the Rattlers to three runs - one earned - over six innings while fanning seven in an 8-3 victory.

Originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 June draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, Wilhelmsen last pitched in 2003 including a 15-game stint with the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. He was a 2003 MWL All-Star, going 5-5 with a 2.76 ERA in those 15 starts with Beloit. Wilhelmsen was out of affiliated baseball following the 2003 season until the Seattle Mariners signed him in February of this year.

Wilhelmsen starts again on Thursday, August 12 as the LumberKings take on Burlington at Alliant Energy Field. For tickets and more information, contact the LumberKings at 563-242-0727 or visit www.lumberkings.com.
